Our vision ...
Handball World Cup 2007. Germany is up against Poland in the finals. The German defense is well organized and is able to deflect the pass to the polish pivot by an extremely fast reaction. The german keeper Henning Fritz gets the ball and initiates a fast break by passing the ball to Torsten Jansen with perfect timing. Jansen is sprinting towards the opposing goal and jumps out of full speed into the opposing circle with the intention to throw the ball from the best possible angle. In the last moment a polish defense player pushes Jansen, so that he gets out of balance and in mid-air starts to rotate around his own center. He is now facing the goal with his back. Ordinary people would have completely lost their body control trying try to avoid landing on their face.
Jansen instead manages to release a probably never before practised back hand throw just in time to place the ball between the goalie and the left post, thus scoring for the german team.
This short scene includes everything that makes the sport handball so entertaining: speed of reaction, teamwork, eagerness, tempo, emotions, creativity, athleticism, body control and variety. It is time for the first handball action game, so that the thrill of handball can finally be experienced via game pad.

There are a lot of arguments against a handball video game. The market is not large enough, it's to complicated, player control is to complicated, handball is boring and one of the big international studios is going to do it eventually. We looked at all these arguments and came to the conclusion, that none of them is a good enough reason for us, not to try it. There are clearly more complex games, there are games with clearly smaller target groups and there are more boring games for sure. That doesn't mean on the other hand that you should start developing the game no matter what. None of these arguments can just be dismissed.
For this reason we sat down, developed plans, wrote concepts, met people and looked at the video game industry to ensure the best possible preparation. Our conviction is: if you develope a handball video game, you have to do it right and consistently. Only by 'trying' you can't produce a video game which will do the sport of handball justice.
In december 2008 we started with the actual programming process and we are now at the point to present our enterprise to the public. We still have a long way to go but we won't go it alone. We want the dream of a handball video game to become reality and we want to achieve it together with handball and video game fans. For this reason on www.handball-challenge.com we will tell you about our proceedings constantly and in detail. We appreciate your help, your feedback, your suggestions and your support.
For good success,
Gregor.
