From Berlin to Cologne and back

The handball season finished on Saturday with the last matches in the Bundesliga and the HBL All-Star-Game on Sunday in Berlin. One week earlier the best club teams of Europe came together at the EHF Final 4 in Cologne, where German side THW Kiel won the Champions League. We took our booth to LANXESS arena and want to look back at the most spectacular handball event of the year.

After a six-hour drive through Friday’s traffic jams from Berlin to Cologne we started to build up the booth before getting some much-needed sleep in order to gain some energy prior to a very intense weekend.
Directly after the doors of the arena opened the booth was full of interested people. We were able to present new stuff to the fans of Handball Challenge, like the new floor and two brand-new mini-games, 1-vs-1 and position throwing. Two of our visitors were former Bundesliga-player Martin Baekhoej and his girlfriend Stine Wahlgren, who took part in our big lottery in January and were the lucky winners of a trip to Cologne including the hotel and obviously the tickets to the EHF Final 4.

They were extremely impressed by the outstanding atmosphere and enjoyed a show by the 19.500 fans, who mainly supported THW Kiel. But also the supporters of Barcelona put on a show, as they brought some football flair into the arena as the regularly performed the well-known club anthem. Coming back to Handball Challenge the fans of Ciudad Real had reasons to be happy, as Jonas Källman himself joined us at our booth on Sunday. He is the first international superstar who decided to support our project and won’t be the last, that’s for sure.

After three exhausting days we went back to the German capital, where we continued to prepare the release of the mini-games on the 16th of June. In between we visited the HBL All-Star-Game in Berlin, where the league officially ended the 2009/10 season. Some of the fans decided that Handball Challenge is more important than the real game, as you can see in our picture gallery and on Facebook.
